Most hexes are already in the right place in a smooth gradient. Find the ones that are out of place and swap them: tap one, then the other, or drag one onto the other. A swap that puts nothing in its place bounces back, and still costs a swap.

Guide tiles. They never move, so use them to see where the gradient is going.

Solve a level in the fewest possible swaps for three stars; a couple of extra swaps still gets two.
